This installment of our auto blog will focus on BMW’s recommended maintenance schedule. By keeping to BMW’s recommended service schedule, you will help improve the performance and longevity of your vehicle. Your BMW will alert you when service is needed or when you hit one of the milestones noted below. The recommendations that follow apply to BMWs from 1999 to the present.
- BMW Intermediate Oil Service: This alert informs you that it is time to change in the oil in your car, and you can expect to need this service approximately every 5,000 to 10,000 miles.
- BMW Oil and Safety Service: This service should occur approximately every 10,000 miles or once a year for newer BMWs, while early 2000’s models need this service approximately every 30,000 miles. This check-up includes an oil change (with filter) and a review of your BMW that includes crucial safety items including: brakes, suspension parts, indicator lights, steering system, rubber belts and hoses, and engine coolant. Also, your vehicle will be checked for fluid leaks, appropriate tire pressure, working wipers and wiper fluid, horn, and dashboard warning lights.
- BMW Inspection 1: This service, which is sometimes referred to as the Minor Service, is a thorough check of most of the components of your vehicle. This maintenance is recommended to occur at approximately 30,000, 90,000, and 150,000 miles. Not only will your car’s engine be services and inspected, but all other major systems will be reviewed, the interior of your car will be checked, along with your tires, wheels, and body. This inspection also includes a road test.
- BMW Inspection 2: This service, which is sometimes referred to as the Major Service, is another thorough check of your vehicle, and is the larger service recommended by BMW. This maintenance is recommended to occur at 60,000 and 120,000 miles. While incorporating all of the reviews from Inspection 1, this service also includes a check of your parking brake, spark plugs, body rust, and air filters.
By keeping up with this recommended maintenance schedule for your BMW, you will help ensure your vehicle runs as smoothly as possible
